Bob Rodenberger says Runs are lighter this week, but Markets remain strong

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Bob Rodenberger about the latest in the cattle markets.

KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

While this week’s numbers have been light when compared to a year ago, Rodenberger said that markets remain strong. “This calf market has been tremendous. The feeder market was excellent, yesterday. The cow market is still steady. Killer bulls were cheaper, but still high.” The fat cattle market has weakened compared to what it was two weeks ago.”

He noted that retail hamburger meat is up to $7 per pound in some areas, when a ribeye steak is $12 per pound.

He warned producers to lock in their margins to prepare for what the markets might do, however, he doesn’t see calves becoming any cheaper by next week.
