Crop Progress- Wheat Planting Underway in Oklahoma- US Corn and Soybean Crop Conditions Little Changed

Corn condition rose slightly while soybean condition fell slightly last week as harvest progressed, according to USDA NASS’ weekly national Crop Progress report released Monday.

Corn was rated 65% in good-to-excellent condition, up 1 percentage point from 64% the previous week. Soybeans were rated 64% good to excellent, down 1 point from 65% the previous week.

Corn dented was 85%, mature was 45% and harvested was 9%. Soybeans were 44% dropping leaves and 6% harvested.

The US Cotton Crop is 39% good-to-excellent this week, down one point from a week ago but ten percentage points up from the same time a year ago. The US Cotton harvest is now 10% complete, with Texas at 22% harvested- five points ahead of their five year average.

Winter wheat was 14% planted. In the southern plains, Kansas is now 9% planted, Texas 15% planted and Oklahoma reports for the first time at 6% planted for the 2025 crop.

Oklahoma Crop Progress

The Winter Wheat Crop planting has begun in the state- with 6% of the expected acreage planted versus zero last week- that is four points under the five year average.

For Our Row Crops- Corn harvested reached 35 percent, up 5 points from previous week and up 20 points from
normal.

Sorghum mature reached 34 percent, up 14 points from last week and up 4 points from normal.
Sorghum harvested reached 18 points, up 8 points from previous week and up 14 points from normal.

Soybeans blooming reached 95 percent, up 2 points from previous week. Soybeans setting pods
reached 78 percent, up 9 points from previous week and up 2 from normal. Soybeans dropping leaves
reached 17 percent, up 7 points from last week and up 1 point from normal.

Peanuts mature reached 44 percent, up 10 points from last week and up 8 points from normal.

Upland Cotton bolls opening reached 41 percent, up 13 points from last week but unchanged from normal.

Pasture and range conditions in Oklahoma continue to decline- now at 34% good-to-excellent this week versus 37% good-to-excellent last week.

Kansas Crop Progress

The Kansas winter wheat crop is now 9% planted- versus 7% last year at this time and the five year average.

Row Crops-
Corn condition rated 14% very poor, 18% poor, 30% fair, 29% good, and 9% excellent. Corn
dented was 94%, equal to last year, and near 90% average. Mature was 72%, near 70% last year,
and ahead of 55% average. Harvested was 26%, near 24% last year, and ahead of 17% average.

Soybean condition rated 6% very poor, 13% poor, 30% fair, 44% good, and 7% excellent.
Soybeans setting pods was 97%, near 96% last year and 94% average. Dropping leaves was
37%, behind 48% last year, but ahead of 32% average.

Sorghum condition rated 10% very poor, 15% poor, 37% fair, 33% good, and 5% excellent.
Sorghum coloring was 80%, near 77% both last year and average. Mature was 35%, near 31%
last year, and ahead of 21% average. Harvested was 5%, near 6% last year and 3% average.

Cotton condition rated 8% very poor, 21% poor, 31% fair, 35% good, and 5% excellent. Cotton
bolls opening was 53%, well behind 74% last year, but ahead of 42% average.

Pasture and range conditions are also declining in Kansas- standing now at 32% good to excellent- down 5 percentage points from a week ago.

Texas Crop Progress

Some producers in some parts of the state were preparing to plant winter wheat for grazing and
production. Other producers were waiting for additional moisture to begin planting. Winter wheat planted reached 15 percent, up 8 points from the previous week, and up 2 points from normal.

For our row crops-
Row crop progress continued across the state. In the Northern High Plains and the Blacklands,
producers were harvesting corn and sorghum. Corn mature reached 97 percent, up 4 points from the previous
week, and up 19 points from normal. Corn harvested reached 80 percent, up 5 points from the previous, and
up 15 points from normal.

Sorghum mature reached 90 percent, up 5 points from the previous week and from
normal. Sorghum harvested reached 81 percent, up 4 points from the previous week, and up 5 points from
normal.

In the Northern High Plains, the Southern High Plains, and the Edwards Plateau, cotton bolls were
opening. In the Edwards Plateau some bolls were falling off due to heavy rainfall and heat. Cotton bolls
opening reached 47 percent, up 7 points from the previous week, but unchanged from normal. Cotton
harvested reached 22 percent, up 4 points from the previous week, and up 5 points from normal.

In the Upper Coast, rice harvest was delayed due to rain. Rice harvest reached 93 percent, up 4 points from the previous
week, and up 2 points from normal.

Peanuts mature reached 30 percent, up 9 points from the previous week, and up 8 points from normal.

In the Blacklands, soybeans were being harvested for forage. Soybeans dropping
leaves reached 71 percent, up 10 points from the previous week, but unchanged from normal. Soybeans
harvested reach 20 percent, up 11 points from the previous week, but down 14 points from normal.

Pasture and range conditions are at 19% good to excellent statewide- up one point from last week. In the Cross Timbers, the Edwards Plateau, and South Texas, pastures were greening
up and improving due to recent rain. In the Blacklands and North East Texas, Bermuda stem maggots were
reported in some hay. Some producers in the Coastal Bend, South Central Texas, and North East Texas, were
building up hay inventory for winter grazing.
