Not Everyone got rain over the weekend, but quite a few folks received some much-needed moisture across the state. According to State Climatologist Gary McManus, “Some got a lot, a lot got some, and too many got too little…but it was rain,”
Norman won the rainfall totals championship with close to five inches of rain- areas around Norman and to the southwest of that Mesonet station got huge amounts of rain.
A lot of northwest Oklahoma got significant totals- and that should allow farmers in those areas to move forward with wheat planting.
Not only did rain sweep across the state, but finally some fall temperatures, and it looks like those temperatures may stick around for this week.

McManus says the other big news outside of the recent rain, is that there is now a tropical system forming, “The big news now, other than Fall falling on us, is the possibility of a tropical system forming into a tropical storm…Helene it will be called if it does form later this week. And it apparently has the Florida Coast in its sights.”

McManus says we won’t see a direct impact here in Oklahoma, but, “some of the model solutions have it rotating around an upper-low over Arkansas and headed towards us, which might mean some rainfall…at least across eastern Oklahoma!”
