KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing partner, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.
He said that despite recent rains, the cow market has gotten considerably cheaper. The decrease is seasonal, but also because the cows are thinner than they were thirty days ago due to weaning big calves and having less grass.
Also seasonal is the reduction in the calf market. “It’s that time of year when these big, fat calves don’t have a lot of friends, and the friends that they do have, after the rain, they are worried about getting wheat planted,” Rodenberger said.
The feeder market was up slightly, and according to Rodenberger, southern fat cattle sold considerably higher on Thursday, $2 to $3 higher than expected.
Rodenberger expects the Oklahoma City sale to run seven to eight thousand head through its ring this upcoming Monday.
