🎄Tis’ the Season to Apply for a REAL ID for the Holiday Travel Season🎄

Listen to KC Sheperd talking with Britnee Joyner about the upcoming REAL ID deadline.

Beginning May 7, 2025, a REAL ID License or Identification card, or valid federal identification document (i.e. U.S. Passport) will be required to board domestic flights, visit military bases and specific federal buildings, and enter nuclear power plants. Farm Director KC Sheperd visited with Britnee Joyner, Senior Public Information Officer for Service Oklahoma, to find out what Oklahomans need to know to be prepared.

Joyner said that the great thing about Oklahoma is that residents can decide whether or not they want a REAL ID., but right now during the holiday season, before everyone starts to travel is a great time to get it before waiting until the deadline.”

According to Joyner, Oklahoma residents who don’t fly, or visit military bases, federal buildings, or nuclear power plants don’t have to change from a standard driver’s license. Another option is to use a U.S. passport in place of a REAL ID.

“We have made it pretty easy to get a REAL ID,” Joyner added. “And we even have a REAL ID checklist that can be emailed to you, so you know exactly what documents you need to bring to your visit.”

The REAL ID checklist is an easy-to-use tool in which citizens can select which documents they plan to use from a list of acceptable documents and then have the option to provide an email address where their personalized list can be sent.

The checklist includes:

  • One proof of identity such as a birth certificate, passport, or resident card.
  • A social security number (Physical card not required)
  • Two documents proving your address such as a valid Oklahoma driver’s license, utility bill, W2, OK Voter ID card, etc.
  • Name change documents (if applicable) such as marriage certificate(s).

Service Oklahoma has more than 270 locations across the state including local tag offices, also known as licensed operators. Residents can visit the Service Oklahoma website to save a place in line so be notified when it is their turn to be seen. The REAL ID section of the website can answer most other questions.
