The 2024 Crop Production Annual Summary was published by USDA today and shows that most row crops in Oklahoma were down in production. Additionally, the Winter Wheat Seedlings Report was published as a first look at what is happening with winter wheat and Oklahoma’s State USDA Statistician Troy Marshall provided our own Stevie White with all of the details. He also provided a rundown on the annual summary for Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, so be sure to click the listen bar at the top of the page to listen to the full audio.
“We know we had some delays getting wheat planted due to drought, and then waiting for some of those larger rains to dry out enough to get it into the ground,” Marshall recalled. “I have heard some reports that some still don’t have all that they wanted in the ground.”
The amount of winter wheat anticipated to be in the ground in Oklahoma as of December 1, was 4.25 million acres, which is down only a little more than two percent from last year.
In Texas, that number was up about 6 percent to 5.8 million acres, and in Kansas, it was down about 3 percent from last year to 7.4 million acres.
The next report on winter wheat will be published in March, and anticipated harvest amounts will begin being reported in May.
