Farm Director KC Sheperd is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing partner, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.
Rodenberger described a “seller’s market” and advised producers not to miss its opportunities. “It’s as good as any of us have ever seen,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if you have a baby calf or a killing cow. They are all worth more than they’ve ever been worth.”
He said that some political pressures are affecting agricultural markets and remarked on the reduced U.S. cattle herd and continually steady beef production. “That is based off of genetics and everything everybody is doing in the industry to make it a better product.”
His outlook remains positive so long as adequate spring rains fall, and he advised buyers to protect their margins with LRP or other options.
He anticipates an influx of numbers in late April/early May as grazing cattle come off of wheat pastures.
