During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report are spotlighting the 19 Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA, who are among the highest achievers in the organization.
The stars come from the five areas in four categories – Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness, and Star in Agricultural Production.
This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Ag Placement in 2025.
One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories will be named the State Star Award Winner during the 99th Oklahoma State FFA Convention, which will take place on May 6th and 7th in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This week, our coverage of the 2025 Oklahoma FFA Star Award Finalists continues with Ag Placement competitor Davin Budy of the Cherokee FFA chapter representing the Northwest Area.
Having been raised on a family farming operation, Budy’s multifaceted project involves beef, grain, and forage production. “As a little kid, I took on the jobs like refilling the ear tagger when we were processing cattle or all of those hours that I spent on the tractor when I could barely reach the clutch, so I started way before I joined FFA,” he explained. “It is just something that I was going to do because I was born into that family, which I’m very proud of.”
He eagerly joined FFA in eighth grade, following in the footsteps of his older siblings. He shared, “Since I can remember, I have always lived to be in FFA. I had watched all of them go through it, and I couldn’t wait until it was my turn.”
He has taken full advantage of the opportunities available in the organization, having participated in most aspects of it.
Budy plans to attend OSU to work towards entering the political space to be a voice for agricultural producers. “Having this agricultural background, I know what they go through because I have lived it, so with the experience I have gained through my childhood, I want to support them in a much different way than by just being one of them,” he said.
