During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report are spotlighting the 19 Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA, who are among the highest achievers in the organization.
The stars come from the five areas in four categories – Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness, and Star in Agricultural Production.
This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Agricultural Production in 2025.
One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories will be named the State Star Award Winner during the 99th Oklahoma State FFA Convention, which will take place on May 6th and 7th in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This week, our coverage of the 2025 Oklahoma FFA Star Award Finalists continues with Agricultural Production competitor Michial Poteet of the Ripley FFA chapter representing the Central Area.
For his FFA Star project, Poteet raises show cattle and pigs, as well as hay to feed the cattle. “I started out with show pigs through a family friend,” he explained. “I gave a speech about my show pigs, and the friend who advised me on my speeches gave me ten embryos to start my show cattle operation. Through that, I’ve been able to raise them, and being able to compete with the high-dollar cattle that you raise is really cool.”
His FFA career began with showing goats in the eighth grade, before he moved to showing pigs and cattle. He also participated in food science, livestock judging, milk quality judging, and more as he searched for the areas that fit him best.
Poteet hopes to continue his project as he attends the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee to study programmable logic controllers (PLC) in pursuit of a career in the oil and gas industry. He hopes for a high enough income to continue to grow and improve on what his FFA Star project started.
