COMMERICAL CATTLE GRADING SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

No Pre-Qualification Required
9:00 a.m. Orientation & Instructional Seminar
9:30 – 9:45 a.m. Break
9:45 am. Contest with results following
LOCATION: OKC West Market Inc., El Reno, OK
The top three scoring overall students will receive the Rick Jones Memorial Scholarships. First Place $2,000., Second Place $1,500., and Third Place $1,000.
Rick Jones was a lifelong cattleman and a founding partner of OKC West Livestock Market, Inc.; El Reno, OK. Rick always realized the importance of having a good eye for cattle, feeling it was the single most important key to success in any aspect of the cattle business. He always encouraged young people who were interested in the cattle business and will continue to do so through the memorial scholarship bearing his name.

Several sponsors present the competition. This contest is open to all FFA and 4H members. Those participating will first attend a 30-minute seminar on grading presented by Jason Harvey, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market Development Coordinator. Following the presentation teams will grade up to 16 head using the criteria covered in the seminar. Scoring will be supervised by Oklahoma Careertech Ag Education department Kurt Murray who is the Southwest Area Program Specialist. A total of 33 scholarships totaling $8,100 will be awarded to the top three FFA teams, the top three 4H teams and the top three individuals from FFA and the top three individuals from 4H. There will also be an open class for individuals not participating in the scholarship competition. First place team members and First place individuals also receive a $50.00 Gift card from Tener’s Western Outfitter, 4320 West Reno, Oklahoma City, OK
