Ag Perspectives Podcast- Ron Hays Talks With Mike Schulte, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission

Ron Hays talks 2025 Wheat Crop and more with Mike Schulte of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission

Oklahoma Farm Report’s Ron Hays sat down and talked about the status of the 2025 Oklahoma Hard Red Winter Wheat Crop with the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, Mike Schulte.

Schulte reviews what he has seen in recent weeks as he has traveled across the wheat belt in the state- and he explains that the crop looks much better than he thought it might look like six weeks earlier. April rains have turned crop prospects around- and has allowed the Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association to predict a 101 million bushel crop for the state in 2025- just slightly less than the 108 million bushel crop produced in 2024.

Hays and Schulte talk about crop conditions, what the Kansas crop may look like in the coming week during their annual wheat tour, what USDA may tell the trade on Monday as they make their first prediction of the year based on May first conditions, the upcoming election for District for the Commission(the seat for the eastern half of the state of Oklahoma that has been held for many years by Don Schieber of Kildare, Oklahoma- who has chosen not to seek another term this year) and what the prospects are to successfully market the HRW crop in the months ahead.
