In a lively celebration of agriculture and American heritage, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Kelly Loeffler officially opened the first-ever Great American Farmers Market on the National Mall. This six-day event, coinciding with National Farmers Market Week, serves as the kickoff for a year-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s independence.

“Is there any better way to celebrate America than launching the effort with farmers representing more than 35 states?” Secretary Rollins remarked. The event is expected to be the first of many, with Rollins adding, “We don’t expect it to be the only; we’ll see you back here next year.”
The farmers market highlights the critical contributions of rural America and small businesses to the nation’s well-being. SBA Administrator Loeffler emphasized this point, stating, “There is nothing like small town America to power the American dream. That’s where I came from. Country does well when small businesses and small communities do well.”
Over 50 vendors from more than 35 states are participating, with daily themes spotlighting a variety of topics, including health, faith, forestry and firefighters, national history, and agricultural education. The celebration also features appearances from several cabinet members and a lineup of notable performers.
The market’s opening ceremony was marked by a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by operatic singer and actress Mary Milburn. This artist has performed for five different U.S. presidents. The event’s musical lineup includes country star John Rich, contemporary Christian singer Danny Gokey, and country music duo LoCash. John Rich expressed his excitement, saying, “Hey folks, it’s your buddy, John Rich here, big and rich me and big Kenny gonna be in Washington, DC to play for the kick-off event.”

Made In Oklahoma was also well represented at the Celebration at the National Mall in DC as the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, food, and forestry promoted “Made in Oklahoma” products.
