In today’s Beef Buzz, senior farm and ranch broadcaster Ron Hays speaks with Matt Sims of MCS Auction about the second annual Commercial Heifer Sale held during Cattlemen’s Congress at the OKC State Fair Park. Sims says the sale is building on a very successful inaugural year, noting that the first event featured just over 600 head and topped $2 million in gross receipts. For year two, the offering has expanded to more than 800 head, with the sale set for Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Barn 3 sale arena.
Sims explains that while the cattle will not be physically present due to the large headcount, all consignments have been professionally videoed on-site. Buyers can participate in person while watching the videos on large screens, or bid remotely through LiveAg and LiveAuctions.tv. He emphasizes that the format allows broad participation while maintaining a live auction atmosphere, making the sale accessible to buyers from across the country.

The 2026 offering includes a wide range of high-quality commercial females, from first-calf heifer pairs to bred and open heifers. Sims details consignments such as 30 pairs with December calves from southwest Oklahoma, nearly 600 bred heifers from multiple Oklahoma ranches, AI-bred heifers from operations with cattle located in Nebraska, and additional consignments from Mississippi and across Oklahoma. In total, the sale features 30 pairs, 598 bred heifers, and 72 open heifers, along with a set of three-year-old second calvers.
According to Sims, reputation and quality are central to the sale. He notes that vaccination protocols and management details are fully documented in the catalog, and many of the cattle come from long-standing ranch relationships where replacements are carefully selected, developed, and bred. With the cattle market remaining historically strong, Sims says demand for high-quality females continues to be robust, especially those bred to proven sires. He adds that the strength of the female market has slowed rapid herd expansion, keeping demand elevated.
Beyond the sale itself, Sims reflects on the continued growth and success of Cattlemen’s Congress, crediting its cattlemen-focused design, strong leadership, and user-friendly environment. He also says the auction business as a whole is stronger than he has ever seen it, with quality genetics commanding premium prices across the industry. Sims encourages interested buyers to visit MCSAuction.com or contact him directly for more information and reminds listeners of additional sales taking place during Congress week.
