In today’s Beef Buzz, senior farm and ranch broadcaster Ron Hays visits with Beth Pembrook of Pembrook Cattle Company, a Fairview, Oklahoma operation that has become known for its uncommon diversity in cattle breeds and deep family involvement. Pembrook Cattle Company is truly a family effort, with Beth working alongside her two sons, Brett and Bryson, continuing a legacy that blends tradition with adaptability in today’s cattle industry.
Pembrook Cattle Company stands out for running multiple breeds under one operation, including Angus, Red Angus, Simmental, Chi-influenced cattle, and Maine-influenced cattle. Beth explained that diversity has become a defining strength of their program. “Our operation consists of multiple breeds… so we’re a little bit diverse in our operation,” she said, noting that while many producers focus on one or two breeds, her family enjoys being active across several breed organizations.
That diversity has roots in both heritage and intentional expansion. Beth shared that her late husband Travis came from a long line of Angus breeders. “It goes back five generations on the Angus side of it,” she said. When their oldest son became involved, the family encouraged him to branch out. “We told him he needed to pick a different breed, and he went with Red Angus… and we just kind of incorporated the Simmentals and the other breeds as well.”
The Pembrooks focus heavily on serving commercial cattlemen, primarily marketing bulls through private treaty sales. “We sell mainly Angus bulls and Simmental bulls and a few Red Angus as well,” Beth explained. In addition to bull sales, the family hosts two major Maine production sales each year and conducts online sales. Youth development is also a priority, with summer cattle camps for kids—an effort Beth says is “a lot of fun for us as well.”
Beth and her family have been part of Cattlemen’s Congress since day one, and she described the event as unmatched in the cattle industry. “The Cattlemen’s Congress is the most elite cattle show in the country… it’s almost like a Super Bowl for the industry,” she said. With cattle entered across nearly every major breed shown at the event, Pembrook Cattle Company may be among the most diverse exhibitors in the barns. As Beth summed it up, “It’s a great industry to be in and to raise your kids as well.”
