A you-pick berry farm experience in Oklahoma provides consumers with a direct connection to local agriculture, and Pati Colston says her operation, Agape House Berry Farm, is designed to offer both fresh fruit and on-farm engagement during the summer season. Speaking with associate farm reporter Carli Davenport, Colston outlined what visitors can expect at her Mustang-based farm.
Colston explained the heart of her operation simply: “We are a you-pick farm. We grow berries, we grow blackberries and blueberries, and some years we have also grown strawberries, but not every year.” She noted that strawberries require more intensive management, adding, “Strawberries have to be replanted every year,” which is why they aren’t part of this year’s crop lineup.

Seasonality plays a big role in the farm’s schedule, and Colston emphasized that weather conditions ultimately determine opening day. “Berry season happens in the summer… normally we say we’re open by the middle of June,” she said. However, she added flexibility depending on conditions: “Just depending on how warm the weather is and how much rain we’re getting… it could be the second week of June.” Once the season begins, visitors can typically count on several weeks of picking time, as “berry season will run through… It’s always safe through Fourth of July, probably about the 10th of July or so.”
While berries are the main attraction, Colston said the farm occasionally offers more than just picking. “Very often we have offered different classes, and sometimes we have events,” she said, noting that plans are still being finalized for the upcoming season. She encourages visitors to stay connected for updates, explaining, “I always post on Facebook, and I have an email list that people can sign up for.”

The farm’s name itself carries special meaning rooted in faith. Colston shared, “Agape is from First Corinthians, chapter 13, the chapter of love… Agape love is God’s, perfect, unconditional love.” She added that while there are different types of love, “Agape is God’s perfect love,” a message she hopes reflects the farm’s welcoming environment.
As summer approaches, Agape House Berry Farm offers Oklahomans a chance to experience agriculture firsthand—right in the field.
