For the first time in more than five years, U.S. beef can once again be shipped to the United Kingdom duty free under a new trade framework. U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Dan Hallstrom said the agreement creates a major opportunity for American producers by establishing a 13,000-metric-ton zero-duty quota for U.S. beef. Hallstrom noted exports to the UK were valued at $30 million to $40 million in 2024 and 2025, but believes that could grow to $150 million to $200 million once the agreement is fully implemented.
To celebrate the renewed partnership, USMEF is hosting trade events this week in London, including gatherings with importers and exporters and a showcase of U.S. beef at a prominent steakhouse. Hallstrom said food service remains the key entry point for building consumer demand, with hopes of expanding further into retail markets. He added the new agreement offers a chance to grow current sales and regain trade lost since Brexit.
