Beef Day at the Capital Set for Tomorrow, May 5th

Oklahoma’s cattle industry will take center stage tomorrow, May 5, as producers from across the state gather at the State Capitol for the annual Beef Day at the Capitol. This high-visibility event serves as a critical bridge between the ranching community and state lawmakers, providing a platform to discuss the economic and cultural impact of the beef industry during National Beef Month.

The centerpiece of the day is the traditional beef lunch, where cattlemen and industry representatives serve up high-quality Oklahoma beef to legislators and staff. This informal setting allows for direct interaction, giving producers the chance to share their personal stories of stewardship while lawmakers get a literal taste of the industry’s success.

Beyond the food, the event is deeply rooted in policy. Throughout the day, members of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and other industry stakeholders will walk the halls of the Capitol to meet with their local Senators and Representatives. Key topics for the 2026 session include property tax levels, land rights, and monitoring legislation, such as SB 2121, which addresses the production and sale of lab-grown protein products.

The Oklahoma Cattlemen will be serving ribeye steak sandwiches again this year on the west lawn. Sandwiches will start being served around 11 am.  Legislators love to see cattlemen and enjoy a free boot shine and a great ribeye steak sandwich.

The event takes place in the 4th Floor Rotunda, with displays from various agricultural organizations highlighting that cattle production remains the largest sector of the state’s agricultural economy. For producers, it is an opportunity to ensure that the voice of rural Oklahoma is heard loud and clear in the heart of Oklahoma City.
