Crop Progress: Wheat Condition Concerns Persist into May

According to the latest crop progress report released on May 4th, 2026, Oklahoma’s winter wheat headed is at 70%, while winter wheat conditions are rated 16% good to excellent, 49% very poor to poor, and 35% fair.

Kansas winter wheat headed is at 70% winter wheat crop is ranked 22% good to excellent, 34% fair, and 34% poor to very poor.

Texas winter wheat crop is at 16% good to excellent, 28% fair, and 56% poor to very poor, while winter wheat headed for the state is at 76%.

Nationally, winter wheat condition ranks 37% Good to excellent, 35% fair, and 35% poor to very poor. Winter wheat headed nationally currently sits at 49%.

Corn Statistics

Kansas corn planted sits at 41% this week, compared to 48% a year ago. Kansas corn emerged is at 20%

Texas corn planted is at 77% this week, equal to a year ago. Texas corn emerged is at 70%

Nationally, corn planted is at 38%, and corn emerged is at 13%

Soybean statistics:

Kansas soybeans planted are at 25% this week compared to 15% last week, soybeans emerged is at 3%

Nationally, soybeans planted are at 33% this week, and soybeans emerged are at 13%

Cotton statistics:

Oklahoma cotton planted is at 1% this week down from 3 % a year ago.

Kansas cotton planted is at 5% this week.

Texas cotton planted is at 24% this week, even with a year ago.
