The National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC) today applauded the Trump Administration’s Great American Cotton plan, a sweeping package of executive actions and legislative priorities from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) designed to strengthen American cotton production, boost domestic and global demand, and protect cotton farmers from risk.
The plan builds on provisions of the Working Families Tax Cuts and encompasses actions across four pillars: expanding domestic consumption of natural fibers, increasing demand and production, improving cotton trade, and protecting farmers from adverse risk.
“Today’s announcement is a major win for cotton farmers and the farmer co-ops that serve them,” said Kevin Brinkley, chairman of NCFC and president and CEO of Plains Cotton Cooperative Association. “In particular, the support for the Buy American Cotton Act and the Plant Not Plastic initiative will have a tremendous, positive impact for producers. We thank Secretary Brooke Rollins and the Trump Administration for their commitment to American cotton and to the farmers who grow it.”
NCFC also expressed support for the Administration’s backing of the Buying American Cotton Act, a bipartisan bill that would incentivize retailers to carry more products made from U.S. cotton.
About NCFC
Since 1929, NCFC has been the voice of America’s farmer cooperatives. Our members are regional and national farmer cooperatives, which in turn consist of more than 1,600 local farmer cooperatives across the country. NCFC members also includes state and regional councils of cooperatives. Farmer cooperatives allow individual farmers the ability to own and lead organizations that are essential for continued competitiveness in both the domestic and international markets.
America’s farmer-owned cooperatives provide a comprehensive array of services for their members. These diverse organizations handle, process and market virtually every type of agricultural commodity. They also provide farmers with access to infrastructure necessary to manufacture, distribute and sell a variety of farm inputs. Additionally, they provide credit and related financial services, including export financing.
