Kevin Hern entered the race back in the spring to replace US Senator Markwayne Mullin the heavy favorite after the junior Senator for the state was named the Department of Homeland Security Secretary for the Trump Administration. The First District Congressman for Oklahoma took care of business on Primary day garnering 69.35% of the vote and easily sending his four GOP Opponents home.
Hern will face the winner of the Democratic primary runoff- the runoff expected to pit N’kiyla Jasmine Thomas versus Jim Priest.
The GOP race to replace Hern to represent Oklahoma in the first District was packed with 11 candidates- with the top two now expected to be Mark Tedford and Jackson Lahmayer. The GOP winner will face Democrat John Croisant in November.
The three Oklahoma Congressmen incumbents who drew primary opponents hardly worked up a sweat- Second District Congressman Josh Brecheen pulled 79% of his race’s GOP votes to gain the GOP Nomination this November- he will face Brandon Wade in the General Election.
Third District Congressman Frank Lucas grabbed 70% of the votes in his primary race and will face Suzie Byrd this November. Lucas is the Dean of the Oklahoma Congressional delegation and has served as the Chairman of both the House Ag Committee and the House Science Committee.
Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole- US House Appropriations Chairman also won easily, with over 71% of the votes in his primary contest. Chairman Cole will likely face Mitchell Jacob in November- Jacob has apparently beat Jeff Pixley by about 2,000 votes.
Fifth District Congresswoman Stephanie Bice did not draw a GOP opponent will probably face Jena Nelson, who is ahead of Trey Martin- leading him with 57% of the Democratic primary vote.
