Find your Local Prescribed Burn Association

You can find a PBA near you on this map from the @Great Plains Fire Science Exchange!

Around 70 prescribed burn associations (PBAs) are active throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska with 182 total across the US.

Neighbors help neighbors to conduct prescribed burns. PBA members are mainly landowners but also include non-profit, state agency and federal agency personnel. The associations often provide equipment such as safety gear, suppression vehicles and equipment, drip torches, and other tools.

Prescribed burns, also known as controlled burns, are a vital management tool used by land managers, foresters, and agricultural producers to safely apply fire to a predetermined area under specific environmental conditions. While the idea of intentionally starting a fire may seem counterintuitive, suppressing all fires can create greater hazards over time. Managed fire plays an essential role in keeping landscapes healthy, resilient, and safe.
