The National Cotton Council (NCC) celebrates the bipartisan Buying American Cotton Act (BACA) reaching 100 congressional co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives. Today, Representative James Gallagher (R-CA) became the 100th House co-sponsor of the legislation.
This achievement is the latest sign of growing momentum for the bill in Congress. BACA is one of only two newly introduced tax measures to reach this level of support, and BACA co-sponsors span the political spectrum, from some of Congress’ most conservative members to some of its most liberal. The coalition of BACA supporters is equally broad geographically, with co-sponsors representing districts across the country, from California to Maine.
“The broad, bipartisan support behind the Buying American Cotton Act reflects growing recognition in Congress of the need to strengthen demand for U.S. cotton and boost American textile manufacturing,” said NCC Chairman Nathan Reed. “Reaching 100 co-sponsors is a major achievement, and we look forward to working with congressional leaders to build on this progress and advance the legislation.”
Earlier this month, the White House also announced its support for BACA.
