U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Oklahoma State Director Zachary Swartz announced today that the Trump Administration provided $33.5 million to the Foss Reservoir Master Conservancy District. State Director Swartz was joined by Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03).
The Administration’s investment will provide the water district with funds to restore the pre-treatment water plant in Custer County. This plant provides wholesale water to four rural communities in western Oklahoma serving: Bessie, Clinton, Hobart, and New Cordell.
“The Trump Administration understands that the restoration of aging water infrastructure is vital to the long-term sustainment of agricultural needs in western Oklahoma,” said Swartz. “This would not be possible with the support of our Oklahoma Congressional District, like Congressman Lucas, who is one of the most effective voices in supporting our Oklahoma farmers and ranchers.”
“I am grateful for USDA’s investment into rural development in Custer County, which provides critical water to communities in western Oklahoma,” said Congressman Lucas. “Farmers and ranchers are the backbone of this county, and it’s great to see the Trump Administration invest in their livelihoods not only in public health but also enable them to maximize their economic prosperity. I was honored to join Director Swartz to celebrate this occasion.”
The funding is provided through USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Programs. Through USDA’s Rural Utilities Service, the Water and Environmental Programs help rural communities obtain the technical assistance and financing necessary to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems. Safe drinking water and sanitary waste disposal systems are vital not only to public health, but also to the economic vitality of rural America. Rural Development is a leader in helping rural America improve the quality of life and increase the economic opportunities for rural people.
