On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions are located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.
Hale said that buyers are still selective about choosing quality, angus-type cattle. “The good angus steers weighing seven and a quarter were still bringing $2.60 to $2.70, but I would still call it steady to a little softer. Over eight hundred was quite a bit softer,” he added. “I think people are just pulling back with this kind of heat and this time of year.”
He said that the softening of the market at this time of year isn’t unusual, but like everyone else, he is waiting for a good cold front. “North Texas has been way over 100 degrees for two and a half weeks, and still has another ten days of it. We are getting a little better relief here in Oklahoma, but it’s still mid to upper-nineties.”
Today, the sale in Woodward is expecting 60-70 nice, black Angus 5-6 months bred cows to sell. He expects a good run in Comanche on Wednesday.
