During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report are spotlighting the 17 Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA, who are among the highest achievers in the organization.
The stars come from the four areas in four categories – Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness, and Star in Agricultural Production.
This week, we spotlight the three area stars in Agricultural Placement in 2026.
One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories will be named the State Star Award Winner during the 100th Oklahoma State FFA Convention, which will take place on May 5th and 6th in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
We continue our coverage of the 2026 Oklahoma FFA Star Award Finalists today with Jacey Treadwell of the Oologah FFA representing the Northeast area.
For many FFA members, supervised agricultural experience projects become the foundation for future goals, and that has certainly been the case for Jacey Treadwell of the Oologah FFA Chapter. Recognized as one of the area’s stars in ag production, Treadwell has built a hands-on goat operation while balancing the demands of school and FFA competition.
Focused on High-Quality Genetics
Treadwell said her SAE centers on goat production, where she raises and breeds high-quality Boer goats while also utilizing Spanish, Nubian, and Kiko recipient does. Over time, she adjusted the direction of her project after learning more about herd health and management.
“I learned that Boer goats are not the hardiest animals out there,” Treadwell said. “They’re a little bit easy to get sick and have lots of problems.”
Because of that, she shifted from simply expanding numbers through live breeding to emphasizing donor-quality does and embryo transfer into recipient females. That change allowed her to focus on stronger genetics and a more efficient breeding program.
Daily Care and Lessons in Responsibility
Running the project requires steady daily attention. Treadwell said when she gets home, she begins feeding, checks each pasture, watches for health concerns, and makes sure every goat comes up to eat.
“Juggling my breeding season and my kidding season, while I’m still a high school student, gets a little challenging,” she said.
She added that fencing and hot wire help keep the goats contained, while plenty of pasture space gives them room to move.
Looking Ahead to OSU
Treadwell hopes to continue her goat operation on a smaller scale while attending Oklahoma State University, where she plans to major in nursing. She said her experience assisting with kidding season has sparked an interest in labor and delivery.
After college, she hopes to continue growing the program she started years ago after buying her first show goat with money she earned working cattle. Treadwell credited her family and ag teachers for helping her along the way.
This year’s 17 Area Stars will each be recognized on stage in the fifth general session of the 100th Oklahoma FFA Convention May 6th in Tulsa and each will receive a plaque and $500 cash award co-sponsored by the Blue and Gold Sausage Co., Sirloin Club of Oklahoma, Masonic Charity Foundation, McDonald’s of Oklahoma, Davis Farms, The Chickasaw Nation, Oklahoma Farm Bureau and the Noble Research Institute.
The Star in each category will each receive $29,484 in scholarships or capital grant funds through a $3.2 million gift from the Carl C. Anderson Trust. The late Carl C. Anderson, after whom the State Star awards are now named, was born in Naples, Oklahoma, in 1911. One of 10 children, he dropped out of high school to earn money and support his family. From those modest beginnings, the Anderson Corp. grew across the country as well as in Canada and South America.
